The former Govenor of Alaska Sarah Palin and many other conservatives assert that "God has granted America a special role in human history." They believe that this is why America is "under attack" by liberals who downplay America's "God-given" distinctiveness.
Do you believe that these leaders are correct in saying that America has a special relationship with God?
A recent survey from the National Marriage Project shows that marriage is an institution in decline in many parts of American society. The survey's author saya "this retreat from marriage in Middle America" will have wide-ranging social and economic consequences.
In 1789, President George Washington voiced his support for a day of "public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God."

Religious Author Don Humphrey, in his book, "Hearts On Fire" asks a very probing question regarding Christian evangelism. He asks, " What Happened to Evangelism?" Dr. Humphrey cites these statistics: "The average member of the church of Christ has heard 4,000 sermons, sung 20,000 songs, participated in 8,000 public prayers . . . and lead zero sinners to Christ."
We are called upon by our Christ to "go into all the world and share the gospel."
Why do you think so many Christians are hesitant about sharing their faith?
The North Carolina General Assembly is reviewing its policies on guest chaplains after Pastor Ron Baity ( Winston-Salem, NC) was told he could not pray in Jesus' name. A group Atheists of Florida is suing the City of Lakeland over its opening invocations "in Jesus' name." Several other governmental bodies in America are facing similar challenges.

Last weekend, at a rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, television personality, Glenn Beck boldly criticized President Obama's religion. Mr. Beck called it a "perversion." He said that America "isn't recognizing the president's version of Christianity." Mr. Beck characterized it as "liberation theology."
Despite critique of Mr. Obama's Christianity a recent poll showed that nearly 20% of Americans believe falsely that the president is Muslim.
It is my desire to make the Pastor's Blog an innovative, provocative conversation on all aspects of religion and faith. I pray that this goal is being accomplished.
